Brief History of Pila

Pila was founded by Franciscan Missionaries in 1578. Before the Spaniards
came, the town was called PAGALANGAN". The town got its name "PILA"
from the FranciscanMissionaries who named it " Pila ng Ponso" referring
to the rows of termite mounds that covered the place.

Pila was dubbed as "BAYANG PINAGPALA" since the old church
and Spanish houses in the town proper were not destroyed during
the Spanish and Japanese occupation.

In May 17, 2000 the town was declared as a NATIONAL HISTORICAL
LANDMARK by the National Historical Institute.
